The screenshots!

Sorry it took so long, had some trouble with signing in to Blogger: (Updated to the new blogger, but forgot that I had to log in with my e-mail instead of my account name.., but everything works fine again. Thanks for being patient.

Nothing special, just the startup screen:

Now, this is the browser fully working. As you can see, you have to hold the DS like a book. This can be changed if you want to, but trust me: Once you've tried this: you don't want anything else anymore! :D I mean it! It works so nice:

Cool, cool... is the speed faster than that 20 minutes to write thing? Is it faster than the Opera Web Browser and three more thing: can you watch videos and music and possibly play runescape?

Great Browser btw. I just bought the Opera Web Browser from Play- Asia and im getting it any time now... guess i'll just have 2 then ^__^

Just an Idea, I dont know if posted already, but why don't you try taking advantage of the EZ-V 3-in-1 expansion card? It's source code was released and its homebrew compatible. im sure utilizing the additional ram space would greately improve the performance of the browser

AWESOMENESS! Looks so great... I cannot wait... however, there's one function I was wondering about. All my DS apps can't connect to my router from my bedroom except for DSLiveWeather, which is slightly slower but fine. Even if it's slow, could there be an option to remove the timeout? At least that's what I think it is...

I am left handed my self, so it will be the standard! :D You can also switch to right handed of course.
The releasedate stays the same, as I said before.
It's going much faster then before, but I don't know how much faster. It is very fast however!

I hate to say it, but that looks like a screenshot from a (Win XP?) computer, just scaled down and rotated.

Either that, or you've done something incredibly difficult in an inconceivably short amount of time, but you can't even be bothered to get even a mediocre picture of it.

That authentication page is served to you by the internet provider (in this case your school). Some cofee shops as well as my own school use the same tactic for limiting access, or charging for access, etc.

as long as your browser can connect to the providers access point, the first page you will get is the authentication page, no matter wht url you type in.

So, reserving judgement on wether this product is legit, or just a traffic generating ad scam, I would say yes it will work with your schools system. My Palm pilot will work on such systems as does the Opera powered Nintendo DS Browser

I'm also skeptical, but taht aside; my initial response to the screenshot (without reading the actual entry) was: "what the hell? Why side-ways? That sucks. :S".

To and anonymous way above, and to people who ask:

GET REAL. Geez, these guys are working very hard to get a browser out, one that you should ONLY expect to BROWSE THE WEB, and not even all websites at that. I'm sure fancy AJAX sites won't work on Gnirfleo, for now at least. Stop bugging these guys about such over-the-top crap like videos and music.

Flash, realistically speaking, will probably take a LONG time (if ever) to get into the browser. The DS doesn't have so much processor to be running that ok? It's slower than a computer from the early 90's, so don't expect it to run junk that your ol' Pentiums couldn't run.

As far as I know, Runescape uses some ActiveX plugin, which is IE only, so NO.

Also, they've already stated that the beta is MARCH 24. SO STOP ASKING FOR AN "EARLY" BETA! It'll be out in 2 weeks.

Sorry 'bout the mean tone, but seriously, comments made without thinking or reading beforehand just annoy me.

1: This browser doesn't look at all like Windows XP. If anything it looks like Mac.

2: Runescape is so bulky that they even offer a downloadable version, for computers "too slow" to play it. It works on Firefox because it's Java. The only way we'll get Runescape on the DS is if they make it open source and therefore port-able. That is never going to happen. Or, they could port it themselves, but that is never going to happen even more!

Anywhizzle, we're going to get some MMORPGS for the DS veerrryy soon I can tell, so be patient. (Pokequest anyone?)

It doesn't support Proxy servers yet, but this might be something for the next version.
And (God, I feel like i've answered this over a 100 times): Flash isn't supported in this version. Who knows what might come in the next version, but for now: Nope sorry.
And yes, it does write to the memory card.
And we don't need translators, but there might be an option for that in the next version too! ;)

So what you're saying is that no, no independent 3rd part has seen a working alpha of this? That makes this project unusual on so many levels.

Even a nice youtube video of this rendering a page would be nice.

I don't mean to be a wet blanket, but this seems like a strawman project used to generate traffic and ad revenue maybe.

I honestly won't believe it untill I actually have my hands of the software...this is wayy to shady and the people posting all happily are the people who don't know what they are talking about. As for the picture...the XP style submit buttons are very fishy... Also, he said himself that he took the picture with a webcam...he could have just as easily took a video while he was at it. Also, release-scams have been seen before in the DS community...so this woudlne't be a first. Chris seems to be the only realistic person here. (ironicly, my name is also chris :S)

Right now i'm using a classic theme so I can't realy compare completely though...Mine are nice and plane :-P Oh well, either way, we can just wait and see. I never said it was completely imposible. I just don't have my hopes up overtly high.

I've noticed some homebrews requiring windows to unpack/"install" the binary files, something that's very annoying for those of us who don't. After seeing the pictures of Gnirfleo in action I fear that it will require windows for unpacking. Will it?

Like others, i can't believe it until it is into my hand, in my M3 simply.You said it will be release on march, 24 th, but i do not know why, i bet you will have problems and the release date will be report for a month or two...am i right ? of course...

but maybe you will erase all doubts by making a video, browsing on the net: a simple google search will be enough I think, and since you have a webcam, it is possible.
But I bet again your cam does not work anymore...?

e3scudo, you can just scroll left and right until a specific part of the page is taken up by the touch screen. The non-touchable screen can sometimes be empty.

The WEP access is built into dswifi libraries, so no trouble with that.

adhdyoshi: Have you seen NDS Mail? It has some buttons that resemble those of xp. It's also not that difficult to write buttons that look like that of windows xp. Hopefully, if they're really making this, it will be skinnable, as I personally hate the look and feel of windows.

BTW, those look like flat buttons to me, they just appear shaded at first from the way the DS is angled. Also, look at the top area of the screen on the right. That's a DS Homebrew-looking font.

On the top of the left screen, I can see two (menus?), one that clearly says Gnirfleo and the other with very blurry text.

I definitely don't think this is a fake. I'm fairly positive Okiwi is real too.

Stop believing that...do you know how much time did it take for the opera's developers team to make it for nintendo Ds ? and they are pros...are you really believing that "mister everybody" like gnirfleo (what a bad name moreover...) could make like that, *snap* , a free browser ?

I'm not worrying. Back in October when this was first "debuted" I predicted it was a hoax.

There's all this "we" when it comes to development, yet not one person comes out and says they're involved.

Most homebrew has shoved out an early version by this point.

Everything is screaming that this is a hoax, and yet people are still lapping it up, and the fact everyone has fallen for it is hilarous in the extreme.

March 24th was the touted day of "release"... "But it's been delayed just a few days" will most likely be the statement, as we head toward April 1st, and quite possibly the longest, most well executed April Fools joke in the history of the internet will come to pass.

ohhh...I diden't realise april was after this month lol. Now i'm willing to bet this is a great April Fool's Joke. Also, that screenshot means absolutely nothing. I could whip up a design like that in photoshop in 5 minutes, convert it to tiles in 2 minutes, and write the program to display the tiles on both screens on my ds in another 2 minutes...That screenshot means absolutely nothing :-P Anyways...I need to start comming up with my April Fool's prank soon...

My buttons in IE, Firefox, and other browsers (depending on how the browsers get their resources) display differnt style buttons when I use differnt windows xp styles or switch between classic mode and the other mode. Also, those buttons don't look the same between my linux running desktops and windows desktops in Firefox. (this is of course assuming that the buttons were mode modified by the web designer at all...just plain standard buttons). Try it yourself, the buttons look quite differnt in classic mode.

I don't understand why somebody who put so much effort in setting up this joke made so many mistakes fabricating that screenshot.

Apart from the comments already made about the lack of touch controls on the left (upper) screen, the google.nl screenshot was created too hastyly.

You can easy create one yourself. Go to google.nl, take a screenshot, and crop it to 640x480. When resizing it to 384x288 (and then cropping to 384x256) you end up with the same picture as in that screenshot. But the screen font should then be anti-aliased to be any readable, esp. the tiny font used to the right of the input field.

Anti-aliased screen fonts is just too advanced a feature to put into a first release of a DS webbrowser, let alone if it would be actually possible with only 4MB of RAM.

Opera DS does not have it, all it does is resize one big picture of the website to fit the screen, not resample every single letter. And it needs a RAM pack to store those images, obviously...

If you would have put more time into creating that screenshot it would have been quite a joke till April 1 indeed :)

If we take in consideration the Supercard for example..Nobody ever imagined that it could run both nds and gba roms.

Too much negative and exigent people are bad for the homebrew scene. Everybody expects a high quality outcome from a paid product, but it should be different when getting a free product.

Both good and bad opinions are accepted, to balance everyone's expectations.

Somebody mentioned about the browser tab buttons being on the screen that is not touch-enabled, but it could also be that the left screen on the picture is in fact the touchscreen. That would require a scrollbar on the left side though.

Then again, the supposed creator of this beauty stated the following in response to the questions about the left screen: "Scroll or switch screens! dumbass. :)"

Apart from the fact that talented programmers are usually somewhat more dignified in their outings, I don't see a horizontal scrollbar anywhere in the screenshot.

A vertical one is not neccesary in this particular page, but what is that greyish/shadowy area in the top-left corner of the google.nl page? It cannot be the edge of the DS screen because there is no shadow over the browser tabs. I can only identify it as a window border remaining from taking a screenshot on XP.

And what would 'switch screens' mean? That I would have to rotate my DS 180 degrees to tap a link on the other side of the page? Or can it magically split rendered HTML in two swappable parts?

If this would be real then I'd probably not even use it :)

I'm go by what i see on the pictures, good enough, other wise opera being release in April in America so i'll just buy that if this is fake... remember both photo's and video's can be fakes @_@

Do you know how much harder a video is to edit than a picture. We want a video to see how it works and how long stuff takes to load if it is real. It is also is a lot easier to tell if a video is edited because it has thousands of photos in it and if one is a little messed up then it is easier to tell that its fake...remember bloodwar is retarded, der der.

Ummm...did you even read my post about how easy it woudl be for me or anyone else to make the picture in photoshop, convert it to tiles, display it ont he Ds with a simple program, and take a picture from my webcam? It's not hard...That pictures is not proof at all. :-P

Also, some people said there are no ads...i see some ads on the front page, i'm sure this would bring in a decent ammoutn of revenue for the effort put forth (all he did after all was set up a little bloger page...).

The people sayings this is real...why? Do you understand the technical limitations of the Ds? Do you understand the difficulty of pulling off such a task?

Anyways, don't flame me, I never said it was imposible...just...extremely unlikely. Also, why coulden't he have released something? There is no reason. Also, I am prepaired to laugh a whole lot when he says April Fool's and I will be sure to send him an e-mail saying how good of a joke he pulled off.

Finally, those saying that he put a lot of effort into what you have seen...just to summarize things:
1. Create a free blog: 2 minutes.
2. Make some posts: 1 to 5 minutes.
3. Create a screenshot and make a program to display it on the DS and take a picture of it - 10 minutes or so.
So what..that's ....a half hour of work over a half a year period. Lets say there is $200 off of ad revenues....sounds good to me.

As for why i'm posting here...mainly because i'm bored and am curiouse to see what happens...also, i'm looking for an excuse not to start homework.

Cbeley: You wouldn't even need to write a program for the image. You could just use IMGView from the creator of Moonshell and that'd do the same thing. I could knock up a webcam shot of Half-Life 2 running on the DS in under a minute.

Sorry that I diden't know that those were ads for Blogger and not put up by the creator of the blog....how does that have anything to do with me knowing anything about websites. For your information I run www.cybernetresources.com and www.codingbychris.com and both were designed and set up soley by me...much of the software was also modified by me and all of it was themed soley by me. I know A LOT about websites. Also, codingbychris is hosted on my own server, so I also know a little about server administration.

I love how those saying about it being fake are being insulted and told to shut up.

The title of the browser should be a huge giveaway. It's a total made up word. In an earlier post it was pointed out that before this launched, the word got no hits in Google.

"Why would they fake it?" Social experiment. (Success.) Google experiment. (Success.) Just to mess with the DS homebrew nerds and make them all surly when told they've been duped. (Success.) I mean before it happened, I doubt anyone expected a respected member of the community to release a program that bricked your DS, but it happened. (Check your DS history.)

Methinks folk need to go and learn about cognitive dissonance. It's the only explanation for the unending hostility and abuse when folk are pointing out that EVERYTHING points to this being a giant, and judging by the people who've fallen for it, fantastically successful hoax.

And surely, after all this, any other homebrew, the creator would have come in to defend themselves by this point...

If I made a DS web browser for free, and had people bitching at me for my efforts, I probably wouldn't even bother releasing it. Yes, it could be fake. The only thing that would even mildly make me believe it's fake is stating Flash support. That is an extremely difficult feat, but Gnirfleo could be a genius, who knows? Please post some technical information, Gnirfleo. I was a believer 100% about this project, but now I'm growing skeptical. It seems as though you just threw together any random application that had Google displayed on your DS. How do we even know this really works? Video proof would sure be nice too.

Look, it's either real or not real.

Now let me simplify things for you.

If we take the meaning "real" henceforth as the binary value 1, and if we take "not real" henceforth as the binary value 0, and if we apply the factors of social experimentation and crappy webcams, I believe I have come to a conclusion.

How come the screenshot of google is netherlands, but the adress is google.com, not nl? Also, how can u people even be sure if that was really a ds? Thats just a illuminated 2 tiles. The background is black. WHERE IS THE GREEN LIGHT???? It should be RIGHT NEXT TO THE TOP SCREEN!! (only a little off.) I personally think it is a fake. MAKE A VID!!! Sure, Almostro is a fake, I just done a picture with photoshop, then cut it in two, put them on my M3 simply as "logo" and "icons"...and i bet it is exactly what "gnirfleo" done, because like gnirfleo, my Almostro look pretty real no ? but the problem is that if I make a video of my almostro, nothing will hapen because it is juste a picture, and, because of that, gnirfleo do not make a vid:
