Gnirfleo - another DS internet Browser!

Some questions answered.

There were some questions in the Comments, so we've done our best to answer them.

Do you need a Slot-1 device?
You don't need a Slot-1 device, but not all flashcards are supported now. The only flashcard we currently have to test it on is the M3, but more flashcards will be supported once Gnirfleo is released.

Can you:
1. Download Files from Webservers or Filehostsites (e.g. Rapidshare, Megaupload, zshare) ?

Not yet, but we're trying.

2. Extract .zip and .rar archives ?

Probably not (yet).

3. play mp3's or other songs available on the Internet (e.g. midi, wma ...) ?

who knows? ;)

4. unterstand/interpret/use the following Formats:

- Javascript ( better known as Javascript)

Of course.

- Java

Not yet.

- other Formats/Skripts that require Plugin.

Probably not at the first version, but maybe later in the future.

5. Save Cookies to CF/SD Card and then to automatically set in them if the Site which they are for is opened ?

Yeah, we want that too! :D

Will Gnirfleo be capable render/display images (e.g png, bmp, gif, animatet gif, jpeg, jpg ) if it is finished ?

What would a browser bee without images? :D
Oh, comments from unregistred users are allowed now too! ;)

  • Ok, see you did a good job so far ! More Questions ( I know it may be annoying for you , but I hope you can still answer ;) ).

    1. Will Gnirfleo mainly be FAT based ? Or will it mainly use the M3´s RAM ?
「I would prefer it this way :
Do one version that JUST uses FAT, and Implelement a way (maybe a button) that lets turn on the RAM for Speed Improvement」

    2. How will Gnirfleo render the pages ? ( Fit to screen size or Full Screen Thumbnail mode ? )

    3. Could you please do it so that the Keyboard is on the Touchscreen the WHOLE time fixed and has a little free square for using the Mouse ( or maybe swap the screens to use the Mouse ?) I just ask about the Keyboard and the Mous because those to Elements would be VERY important to be able to play/use ALL Javascript/Java/Flash Sites

I hope that I will not ask to much in the future (I know it nervs...):

  • Sounds great. I have a SuperCard SD so i am hoping that it is supported. Any chance we can get some sneak peaks at the interface/graphics for the DS?

    Please? :)

  • I want to know if i can beta test something, anything whether its the program, or just a small part.

  • Some more questions:

    1. Will Gnirfleo support Tabs if it is finished ?

    2. Could you please add a signal strengh indicator some where in the Browser (Maybe like the Opera Browser one ) that shows the signal strengh

By Blogger Pascal, at 7:00 AM

  • Hi,
We're trying to use the free space on the CF/SD card in the M3.

Images that won't fit the width of the page will be resized, just like Opera's browser.

The keyboard won't be on the touch-screen the whole time, because we're currently experimenting with some very nice modes, which you will hear about it very soon!

A sneak peak of the interface will be showed very soon, and we already have enough Beta testers.

We'll try to add tabs, but we haven't started on this yet.
The Signal strenth indicator isn't what we're working on at the moment, we don't think it's that important.

  • When you say you will use the free space on the SD/CF...are you referring to using it as ram? Wont that ruin the card since it only has a limited number or times it can be written/rewritten?

By Blogger Elessar, at 7:28 PM

  • I am excited about this project.

I am so looking forward to some screen shots. And yes to a release too :)

  • So will the Gbamp be supportet by Gnirfleo too ? (I just ask because if you would use the M3´s Ram then this would kick the Gbamp and other Flashcards away...) Do you mean that you will use the available Free Space on the CF/SD Card to save/load/render Webpages ? (If so, then this would be pretty good, because we would have then nearly unlimited space available ! )

By Blogger Pascal, at 5:02 AM

  • No eessar, it can be written as much as you'd like.

We're not sure if we're using this, because this part isn't working yet.

And we haven't got a Gbamp so we can't test it. Sorry

  • Oh, and, if I write down too much Questions and suggestions here... Why don´t YOU try to post something semi-theme related ?:

By Blogger Pascal, at 4:24 AM

  • There is a difference between being enthusiastic and the just flat out spamming the comments...think before you type, 3 comments in a row isn't needed.

By Blogger Elessar, at 8:56 AM

  • frames supported?

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 3:55 PM

  • Any relase date? It's possible to we can see it in this year?

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 11:59 PM

  • Yes, frames are supported when it's released, and a release..? We're not sure yet. Sorry.

By Blogger Gnirfleo, at 12:13 PM

gnirfleo: There is a limited write cycle for flash memory. Therefore, using it as swap space will ruin your memory card quickly.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 5:58 PM

  • @anonym:

Why would it ruin it ? In the articel you linked was written that CF or SD Cards should stand 1.000.0000 rewrites... How often can you rewrite the M3´s or Supercards Ram before it is done ? Oh and in the the articel they did write something about that only chip-based storage spaces are limitet in writing and erasing... Does that mean that PC Harddrive can be rewriten an unlimited number of times ?
