Gnirfleo - another DS internet Browser!

Another Interface!

Ok, so after all we didn't like the old interface that much. Yes, it is simple, but it's not really use-friendly. How hard is it to press that tiny text?

We also decided it needed a whole other look, so our graphic designer worked his butt of last night to make a new one, and guess what? It's up to you if it's good enough!

We know the fonts need some work, so you don't have to say this.

Nintendo DS Browser

So, what do you think? Was the first one better, or is this one better?

• This one is great, mostly because of the new buttons, but i would add 2 things:

- A small button placed on the right of the Open URL one, with a picture of a house, to access the home page that you could select while you are surfing and also in the options page.
- An open file button ( or when you press the open button it shows a new dialog/page with two sections File and URL

Nice Work!

• cool , noow thatt give hopes to those who cant wait to come out hey i love this graphical interface but could you add more flashy coly and a little bit brighter ,bro. thanks

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 9:41 AM

• oh i mean more flashy color(not coly)

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 9:42 AM

• I think its really good.
Don't add much more as it could create slow downs.. and who likes those?

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 11:05 AM

• I think its better :-D
I agree with people, we need brighter colors , maybe the green of your blog, the gray is really too dark.. but hey,its really cool !
good work guys and girls!
:-D

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 1:52 PM

• I agree, being able to configure the colors would be awesome, and maybe include multiple themes and layouts so each user can choose their own? I'd also really like a Firefox style layout.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 6:05 PM

• It actually looks pretty good. I'm impressed.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 6:59 PM

• This is perfect -- nice and simple for that tiny DS screen. Maybe in the future you can add some user-selectable color schemes, but I think for this early in the development stage this is a great starting point :)

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 9:17 PM

• Wow. That, is what I call an interface! Well done!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 3:46 AM

• color is what is missing that is it. if you add color it will so cool. bright color baby just like light green ,redish u know.thatnx

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 9:56 AM

• It looks more intuitive, but i don't very like the new colours.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 12:10 PM

• i think everyone is complaining about the color so i think everyone is talking about the color so you better make some changes before any one get mad

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 1:06 PM

• soory foolish statement.,lol

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 1:07 PM

• So Gnirfleo.... can you estimate a date for a release? i'd love to know when I can try this out.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 2:33 PM

• I don't mind the new design. It's simple and straight forward. A few more colors (and maybe brighter, less bleak) would add to the effect. Maybe a background, some anti-aliasing and drop shadows :) I dunno, just some suggestions.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 4:57 PM

• its fine. If someone wants it different im sure it wouldnt be difficult to make a skin for it, depending on how u guys implemented the menu...is it one background and 3 over laying buttons? or is it all one picture with certain sections hyperlinked?

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 9:03 PM

• All the images are different layers, so there might be a feature in the future to make your own skins. But we're not working on that yet.

An estimated release-date will be posted very soon, but we don't want to get your hopes up, so we have to get a real date.

By Blogger Gnirfleo, at 2:48 AM

• I like so much te big buttons and for the color I thought to put some orange

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 4:37 AM

• New interface looked weird in my eyes and because I was so bored I made new interfazce for you. Its better or worse but if it's better, feel free to use it if you want. Just let me now :). I just wanted to help.

• That looks pretty nice Kraton!

We can't use a standard PNG as interface, but we'll discuss it!

By Blogger Gnirfleo, at 12:18 PM

• I made just a little different jpeg pic

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 4:18 PM

• I think you should first make a beta version and only after work on the design

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 9:05 AM

• any date of relese yet ps. will it work on the R4 ds

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 6:32 AM

• Hello, My friend,

How time you need for make a Beta product?

Thanks

By Blogger JaviLynx, at 6:33 AM

• Just wondering. Will this have tabbed browsing like Firefox?

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 9:07 AM

• Just wondering. Will this have tabbed browsing like Firefox?

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 9:07 AM

• Okiwi are about to publish a demo homebrew browser, so the race is on...

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 10:39 AM

• ok gnirfleo keep up the good work, but i have a question which is really important :

WHAT SERVER WILL YOU BE USING FOR THIS BROWSER?

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 11:32 AM

• Okiwi plans to release a demo version. And they will be dubbed the first group to release the first homebrew browser for the DS.

Don't you guys want that honor? I would think you do.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 5:34 PM

• cool when will he be releasing the demo. i just want himt o know that okiwi too is about to release a demo soon so this is really the survivior of the fist

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 8:39 AM

• interface? are you guys talking about that brown thing.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 8:59 AM

• gnirfleo.will the browser really compulsory for ram using like dpme flash cart like m3,supercard, i mean they have built in ram while some cart do not really use ram like ds-xetreme, gbamp cf,m3 pro sd,.....so i dont really know which cart is really suitable for your browser except if if your browser is lower than 4megabyte so it fit in to the ds built in ram. so i tell me, gnirfleo

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 10:08 AM

• i think it will be using a ram and not the ds ram because it is only 4mb which is not even enough for a browser

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 12:31 PM

• oh comon gnirfleo do you think it is reallyy neccessary to have an extra ram with it?man i only hsve s gbamp cf

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 2:13 PM

• guys those people who are willing to get the cheapest flashcart i think your dreams have come true .the gbamp sd is now supporting homebrew and guess what it almost support every ds rom that you ever think about. i was sooo suprise .man it is soooo coollll now i think everyone will be willing to get it just for $25.hehehehehehhe. go to moiveadvance.com and then ckick on sd box then click download and go all the way down you will see the updated firmware. it is so hot.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 2:52 PM

• hey nice work man.but will it be capable to run on gbamp sd as that guy said?

By Blogger Ade, at 4:03 PM

• Hmmm... I like the old one, but it seems more people like this new one. Maybe add an option to switch in between?

...nah, I know how hard coding is, that would probably take a day to program in!

Oh, and sorry about his butt. I'll contact the police right away and they can set up a search&rescue!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 5:19 PM

• I don't really care about the interface after all... but please make it compatible with GBAMP CF! I know you can do it!

Maybe try rendering web pages to image files stored in RAM? That would require processing power, but with compression and clever coding, not much memory I think. Also tabbed browsing may be hard...

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 5:24 PM

• please make a support for gbamp sd too

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 8:22 AM

• people that are using the gbamp cf or sd you dont need to worry about RAM memory at all, there is this homebrew program that bypass an individual space into you sd or cf creating somekind of a ram folder stored in your sd or cf so it redirect any homebrew to the folder and access from the folder as a ram storage. go to google and search for iot.hahaha. it just came out a week ago if you have not heard of it.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 8:27 AM

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 10:49 AM

• "Maybe try rendering web pages to image files stored in RAM? "

If we'd to that, you won't be able to copy & paste text. ;)

And we can't see if it works on the GBAmp because we don't own one. All we own is 2 M3's (CF&Pro) and a SuperCard (SD)

By Blogger Gnirfleo, at 12:22 PM

• hahahahahahahaha gnirfleo you are funny . what is the difference between m3"pro" and gbamp. m3 pro doesnt have any ram and only supported 4 megabyte of a gba rom. so what are you talking about so far it works on a m3 proffessional (m3 pro) then why cant it work with gbamp

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 12:33 PM

• hey guys this is the translation of what the spanish kid wrote

If you cannot expect this browser you can utilize already "Links" the browser that is this a lot better than the other browser of Linux. I do not know reason the people desires to leave through tabulated and the luxury matter remainder, it would be acceptable if we would be able barely to type inside an URL and to go to a Web page using the adjustment of the wifi of the DS.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 12:36 PM

• what the f##K are you talking about, gnirfleo.homebrew were meant for gbamp, every homebrewster carried out thier first test on a gbamp so why are you soo different?is it because it has no ram, what about the pro?it doesnt have ram either.and ofcourse every homebrew work on gbamp so you better give me a good reason why your work wont work with a gbamp.
i knoqw you are doing a great job but hey u better make a support

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 2:42 PM

• I think that it would be much better if you use the image of the blog (that green with squares) i do a poor thing with paint, but I like the way it looks i don't want to offend your graphic designer, i think he could do something better, but i want you to know what I mean...

http://img442.imageshack.us/my.php?image=gnirfleolookxi4.jpg

And, actually, you can delete the tribal i put on the middle, it doesnt look as good as i previusly think...
And sorry for my english, I'm not a native speaker...:(

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 3:34 PM

• We haven't tried Gbamp because we don't have one. We also haven't said that the M3 pro works yet, we just have one to test.

We will buy a GBAmp to test it, but come on: It will be very expensive to buy all Flash Cards just to test every damn thing.

And javier: I understand what you're trying to say, and so far, I like it. We'll discuss it too.

By Blogger Gnirfleo, at 1:54 AM

• Hmm... I might fund you some money so you can buy a GBAMP... I bet I could spare 20 bucks, because I want the browser that badly.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 7:30 AM

• mee too i can donate 30 dollars, what do you think,?
i really need that browser badly

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 9:51 AM

• but the question is
1. what server are you willing to use?
2. Will it be "able" to support most of the flash cart in the market?
3. Will there be a firmware update?
4.Will there be tab supporting?
5.approximately when will you release the first demo actually?
6. Are you willing to work on another new project after this is browser release or successful?
Is it capable of rendering flash media? (well, i hope so)

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 10:01 AM

• Flash... I don't need Flash. Maybe a feature to download Flash files, as an NDS Flash player of its own is VERY plausible (I think one has already been made, but w/out sound). Flash would be very hard to implement.

Heck, I don't even care about images just much. Just connect to Wi-fi easily, be compatible with GBAMP, and access fanfiction.net so I can read my favorite fanfics, and I'm good. :)

Also, if the features aren't in the first release, you can always try programming them in yourself. Remember, this is open source software!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 12:30 PM

• hehehehehe. i think gnirfleo need to answer some question.hehehehe

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 12:31 PM

• Hi to my favorite team! :-D
Personnaly, i have a supercard cf, supercard rumble microsd and a gbamp version 2 cf.. If i can help for testing files or something let me know and will send you my email :-D

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 1:00 PM

• to anonymous of 12:30 pm if you dont care about image, you can already use retawk browser in ds linux http://www.dslinux.org/wiki/GBAMP

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 1:06 PM

• the anonymous of 12.30 is really a wack and crazy dude. what is he saying that you dont care about image. you are not welcome here at all because gnirfleo is trying to be better than that nintendo opera browser but not to just reease a browser without image. do you ever heard of dslinux? go and download that if you dont want image.how can you be browsing without image.man that dude is crazy.maybe he needs help .

but hold you also said that there is a "NINTENDO DS FLASH PLAYER"? where did you get that information from?

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 2:38 PM

I may be crazy, but I'm a good researcher!

Also, I like images and all the neat stuff. I just don't care THAT much. Tis all icing on the cake for me!

I have DSLinux, and the interface is not that friendly with retawq and links. Also loading large web pages causes it to crash, and kernel panic happens for no reason at times...

I don't want to pressure the great developers of this software.

One last thing:

QUOTE: how can you be browsing without image.man that dude is crazy.

http://www.walthowe.com/navnet/history.html

If I am correct in reading, the first graphical browser came out 1993! ...well true, that's before I was born, but for years, people were browsing without images.

Sorry if I'm not welcome here. I'm really interested in the development of this project.

• Some answers:

1. what server are you willing to use?

We have our own private server (one of our people has his own hosting website) where our website will be hosted too, when Gnirfleo is finished.

2. Will it be "able" to support most of the flash cart in the market?

Probably.

3. Will there be a firmware update?

No, there are new versions coming every now and then. You'll have to redownload it again.

4.Will there be tab supporting?

Hell Yeah!

5.approximately when will you release the first demo actually?

We're not sure yet, we'll announce it soon.

6. Are you willing to work on another new project after this is browser release or successful?

We're always programming everything for school, so it's possible that their will be a new DS project once.

Is it capable of rendering flash media? (well, i hope so)

Nope, we tried this, but this isn't working yet. Maybe a feature that will come later, but probably not. :(

Oh, and we don't want your money to buy a GBAmp, we'll get some testers soon!

By Blogger Gnirfleo, at 3:31 AM

• ok the aka crazy dude of 12.30 and (also 5.46) well sorry i call you crazy dude but i think you just got a new nickname.lol
ok now let start
how old are you actually 13,12?
and also dont you really think that we have to place an advance ment in technology than to look back to the days that they only browse word with no image or video, and now the opprtunity comes up to browser with these exclusive item(image,pdf.....) and what comes out of your mouth was ".........
Heck, I don't even care about images just much. Just connect to Wi-fi easily......." and later on you said ".....Also, I like images and all the neat stuff. I just don't care THAT much..." so what is the point of browsing withount image. oh and one more thing i think you said you are a "GOOD RESEARCHER" well i can not agree more or less with you because i am damn sure that you are really one hell of a "researcher" indeed. hahahahaha a reseacher who is researching something on te internet withot image, without prove of picture.huh?
what if u are given a project to prove that dinosaur exist ,and now you go on the web print out the words that dinosaur exist without the pixture of the bone, or the scientist that discover its existance.

hey dude you know i think i have an idea pretty well
why dont you take a time machine back to the days where they browse without image so you can really enjoy it so well so that i wont bother you again..
u are shit bro.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 7:22 AM

• you really big mouth crazy dude

(sorry i forgot to put that in my last post)

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 7:24 AM

• Valentine, I am sure the guy from 12:30 browse from his house with images. He's just saying he want a browser for DS that badly that he don´t care about images. I'm sure he enjoys searching images at his house but for the DS he just want something that work well.
Now, respect him. What gives you the right to tell him to go back in time. Just let him live his life, if he just want a browser without images, just respect that.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 11:54 AM

• JMA790 he dont just want a browser without image, he already have dslinux and retawk, he want a browser he likes and he dont care about images,, but we care, if we dont we have retawk.;-) his first post have just no reason to exist here..

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 12:19 PM

• I care about images too, i don't use DSlinux and other homebrew due to text only interfaces. I´m waiting for any homebrew browser like Okiwi or Gnirfleo to surf the Intenet the way it's supossed to be surfed.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 12:30 PM

• ok ok ok i got it. i will stop complaining about the crazy dude but how can he possibly say he doesnt care about image in this blog when gnirfleo is trying to impress the people that he can do better than opera.
and also i told tis guy to go for ratwaq on dslinux cuz that is the best one for him and i dont really care so .......

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 1:43 PM

• Is this ever coming out? Is all we'll ever see is a interface created through microsoft paint? Is this vaporware?

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 2:42 PM

• I'm 12 years old. And also not a piece of s***. We should not be flaming here.

I'm sorry for bragging when saying I'm a "good researcher". I wasn't really being serious.

As I said, DSLinux is hard to configure, and I like images, it's just that I don't REQUIRE them. Of course I prefer a browser with images to a browser without them, I just don't want to put pressure on the developers.

Crazydude is a nice nickname, but ADHDYoshi is better and more creative! XD

Oh, and I would be interested in beta-testing... only that I don't have Wi-Fi, so I could only load pages from my CF Card. I have a GBAMP and some coding experience, so I might be able to spot a few bugs.

ADHDYoshi

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 3:09 PM

• well i think i prefer crazydude better, NOw you are making sense, well that alot of snese from a 12 years old boy,mm.
ok but what m saying is browser with image will be better of course ,it will really be boring if we just browse through words without image just like the linux.
oh i need to ask you something alos
do you know that gbamp "sd" now support homebrew , i have one and i was tring to download the firmware update from movieadvance.com but it takes 6 hours just for the download and when it gets to like 15% of downloading the file,it stops and then this interface jsut popped out saying that it is done and when i tried to open the file with winzip and winrar it gives warnning that the file is corrupt or not valid, man i am tired of it.do you know any solution to this problem
also they told me i could use other tool to donwload the file but how?

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 4:17 PM

• I have an R4, if you need some testing, let me know.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 4:56 PM

• man does any one know if a gbamp sd support nds commercial roms?

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 4:23 PM

• NEVER DOWNLOAD DS COMMERCIAL ROMS!

#1: It's illegal!
#2: Some roms can have viruses in them that can remove the firmware on your DS, turning it into a shiny Nintendo brick.

Instead, use a dumping utility like this to get the roms directly from your game cartridges:

http://wiki.pocketheaven.com/NDS_Rom_Dumper

What??? Oh yeah, GBAMP SD may or may not support some dumped roms... I know the GBAMP CF does... but you need to use this tool:

http://derzippi.de.funpic.de/

Download it there. Warning: heavy swearing in readme.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 5:16 PM

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 1:06 PM

• does that link work with gbamp sd too?

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 1:31 PM

• Probably not... but you should only be playing roms if you have the original cartridges, and since you have the original cartridges, you can play those, right?

Never download illegal roms, they can ruin your DS. And your warranty won't help one bit.

• Este proyecto sea como ese otro "browser" DSWeb - ningún wifi. de Homebrew.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 3:05 PM

• this question is for gnirfleo:

dou you think your browser will beat okiwi?
heheheheheh i am waiting for your question....
well i hope so cuz i am a fan of your work
i heard okiwi has release a working demo
guys is it true or false
so i could go grab me some browser hehehehehehe

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 8:39 AM

• gnirfleo is about to relesase a demo at the end of this month man it will be so cool
also i think he is looking forwasrd to change the name of the browser to "degenerate-x" man that is sooo cool.
i love it

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 8:41 AM

• Please, no more fight gnirfleo vs okiwi, it's insane. Keep working coders!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 3:55 AM

• Even with nintendobook's very funny remark I still havn't seen a proof.

It is probably true that you working on it but consider the possibility that this is just joke (which it probably isn't).

I just want to be certain.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 7:05 AM

• The original gui is much better. The new one looks uber-n00b.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 8:20 AM

• Hmmmm, hope this could get by the end of the month. Or just random clumps of uncompiled HTML rendering code, those are fun too!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 10:22 AM

• Please give us the rom of what you have got so far

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 10:55 AM

• anonymous lol
how someone can do a proof for coding? i ask to you again, how can they do a proof? im really curious and wait for your response
lol
I know hellods was a fake but its the only fake i seen..

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 11:05 AM

• ¿Esto será una "versión parcial de programa" como DSWeb? ¿solamente un interfaz, ningún Wifi, ningún HTML y trabajo?

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 11:24 AM

• I don't know what the anonymous at 8:41 AM was talking about, but I can say that he's talking a lot of bull.

By Blogger Gnirfleo, at 12:20 AM

• Providing the proof (of any kind) is not my concern nintendobook.

For example: take a screenshot where we can see a piece of the code.

Show us the entire interface. Not just the start screen. (surerly the images of that are on your computer)

And even more easy, if your planning to release the browser at the end of the month, you must a have testing rom on your nds by now i think. Take a picture of that (the rom working on the ds) and show it to us.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 1:34 AM

• WAIT A MINUTE GUYS
DO YOU KNOW HOW LONG IT TAKES TO BUILD UP A HOMEBREW BROWSER?
i SWEAR IF THIS THING IS FAKE AT THE END MAN I WILL KILL GNIRFLEO
I WILL TOTALLY RIP HIS HEAD OFF
THEN I WILL SACRIFICE IT TO OKIWI
AND IF OKIWI IS FAKE TOO,HEHEHEHEHE
HE GOING DOWN BIG TIME. TRUST ME
BECAUSE IT BEEN ALMOST HALF A YEAR NOW AND STILL BRINGING SOME FOOLING SCREENSHOT
THAT IS NOT HOW WE TRUST YOUR WORK
BUT BY GIVING US THE MAIN INTERFACE,PROGRAMMING, EVEN TAKE A PICS WITH YOU TEAM WORKING ON IT OR A VIDEO STREAM .
JUST A SOLID EVIDENCE

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 7:49 AM

• I'm thinking that this is vapourware.
yes I agree should be a screenshot at least like this one:-

• bah! let's anonymous(S) talk alone ;-)
i hope he will dont wait too long before pepsiman release his version of his retawk with images :-) i seen his screenshot in november i think, and no updates since that for dslinux :-(

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 3:24 PM

• valentine, you gotta calm down dude...just chill. just use the opera web browser. Its not bad.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 4:23 PM

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 12:19 PM

great for translating from Spanish to English and vis versa. The grammar isn't 100% great but you'll understand more or less what there saying. For okiwi i have Google translate the whole page.

bloodwar

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 12:47 PM

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 11:30 AM

• the first is better!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 9:39 AM

• I liked the first one better, as far as color scheme, if this one had that same color scheme, as opposed to boring brown/black/white, it'd be better

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 2:42 PM

• whats this emo colors lol you need it to be pink to be attractive
/////=~.:;PINK POWER;:.~=/////

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 10:52 PM

• brighter colors

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 11:41 AM

• What's with all these other people saying it's good? This interface is closer to the mark, seeing as you've used nice big text and your buttons have sensible labels, but you need to remember to make foreground stand away from background. Black on white is the best way to achieve high contrast. It's why black-and-white is the default style for bare webpages.

Also, horrible typeface, as you said.

Also, remove the gradients. Keep it simple. Or why not make it skinnable?

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 9:33 PM

• Hello Gnirfleo where can i send you some designs for interface and so? :) david

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 3:32 AM

• Please make it lighter, brown isn't good. also if you could add skinning options then you wouldn't even have to worry about the theme ;)

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 11:09 AM

• Why dont you use this gui its really good ds-scene.net/forum/pforum.php?act=3&publicforum=13&topic=393

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 10:04 PM

• Yo.. everybody.. this is a fake.. and the "team" is not gonna release something soon, it's just a screenshot made with paint or some other that can do gradients..

And i don't think they are real in some way.. it's just another blog that needed attention..!

Sorry but that's my opinion ok..
